Light Rail To Downtown Area:
Information on the new light rail system (routes, fares, etc.) can be accessed at the following website: http://www.valleymetro.org/metro_light_rail/.
The ABIL/Disability Empowerment Center (DEC) located at 5025 E. Washington St. in Phoenix (85034) is opening its parking garage to anyone who wishes to park there & ride the light rail downtown to the Expo. An all day light rail pass is $2.50, compared with all day parking rates in the garages downtown, which are $10-$12.
From the DEC, there are two options for accessing the light rail to the Phoenix Convention Center:
-
There is a westbound light rail station at 44th St. & Washington. The distance from the DEC to the 44th Street Station is approximately ¾ of a mile. The route is reported to be accessible, but involves heavy traffic and crossing busy intersections. Coming back, you would reverse your route and get off the train at the 44th Street & Washington Station and take Washington Street east bound to the DEC.
-
In front of the DEC (by the sign), board the #1 bus and take it to the Priest & Washington Street Light Rail Station. Here you can catch the west-bound train. Your bus fare will transfer to the light rail. Coming back, ride the train to the 44th Street Station and catch the east-bound #1 bus at the southwest corner of Washington & 44th Street. Tip: ask the driver to stop at the DEC/Stockyards Restaurant stop.
Downtown, Phoenix Convention Center, & Light Rail Stops:
-
If taveling on the east-bound light rail, get off at the 3rd Street & Jefferson Station. The Phoenix Convention Center South Building is directly across the street on the Northeast Corner of 3rd Street & Jefferson. The entrance to the Expo and Hall G will be on the west side of the building.
-
If traveling on the west-bound light rail, get off at the Station between 2nd Street & 3rd Street on Washington Street. Head south on 3rd Street and the South Building of the Phoenix Convention Center will be on the Southeast Corner of Washington & 3rd Street.
